So Lexember has begun. This year, I will be creating vocabulary for Saan, a new entry in the line of the Saadan languages. I’d also like to get around to documentation for it at some point, but that’s not guarenteed to happen. It’s on my mind.

Here we go, though!

The new Saan word for today, December 1st, 2015, is:

śanu

noun, /ˈɕɐ.nu/

A domesticated or otherwise seen as under-control animal.
From the Naretvei word “hanu”, meaning “animal”.

This contrasts with:

matcsi

noun, /ˈmɐʔ.tsi/

An undomesticated or wild animal; a wild beast.
From the Naretvei word “hmäci”, meaning “wild”.

Two-for-one! These were from /u/phunanon’s Just Used 5 Minutes series on reddit (this post). The full translation from there is:

Raáka yomoeńö hajzia śanua.

raa-◌́-k-a yomo-eńö hajzi-a śanu-a

ˈʀɐːj.kɐ jo.mo.ɛnjə̟ʔ had̯ʑˑjɐ ɕanwɐʔ

love-PRS-PASS-IMP child-ESS this-NOM domestic.animal-NOM

“Love & care are what this animal needs.”
Lit.: “Love this animal as a child.”
